1.) short (ë) - เอะ
The short "e" sound vowel script has a combination of a short "a" vowel (อะ) symbol that gives us an idea that it is pronounced with a short duration. The symbols are placed on both sides when combined with a consonant. It is an open vowel so it can't be located in between two consonants in a three letter syllable.

Let's add another set of consonants:
bo baimai - บ ngo ngu -ง no nu - น
บ bo baimai is pronounced as "b" for the initial sound.
initial b- บอก - bok (tell)
final - p
but for the final sound it is pronounced as "p".
มอบ - mop (give)
ง ngo ngu is pronounced as "ng" for the initial and final sound.
initial - ng งาน - ngaahn (work)
final ng- นั่ง * - nang (sit)
น no nu is pronounced as "n" for both initial and final sound.
initial n- นา - naah (farm)
final - n บ้าน * - baahn (house)

2.) long (eeh) - เอ
a long "e" vowel sound pronounced (eeh) - with long duration. It can be a closed or open vowel.
open - เท - theeh (pour) closed -เดน - deehn (leftovers)
เก เด เม เบ เง เน
geeh deeh meeh beeh ngeeh neeh
เอก เบน เกด เมง เกก เงบ
eehk beehn geeht meehng geehk ngeehp
เดกะ เบเมะ เบนกา เดงเนะ เกงบา

2.) Other short (e) - เอ็-
a short "e" sound vowel pronounced (e). It is a closed vowel that is pronounced almost the same as with the short "e" vowel sound in English.
